Lionel Messi led Argentina to World Cup glory on Sunday, beating defending champions France 4-2 on penalties after a pulsating 3-3 draw.

The epic game will go down in history as one of the greatest World Cup finals ever. Argentina dominated the opening 80 minutes and went 2-0 up before France came from behind twice to take Messi’s side to penalties.

Despite being on the losing side, Kylian Mbappe was a standout performer as he became the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final since Sir Geoff Hurst in 1996 for England.

The magnitude of Sunday’s final was a leading topic of conversation between Chris Sutton, Ian Herbert, Ian Ladyman and Oliver Holt in the latest edition of our World Cup Confidential videocast from Qatar.

Our writers Oliver Holt, Ian Herbert, Chris Sutton and Ian Ladyman were speaking as part of Sportsmail and MailPlus’ daily videocast ‘World Cup Confidential’.
